Notes: Why Art? This painting intermingles text from a novel written by my late father, in which Louise, the protagonist asks, "why is art so important?"  with falling petals and botanical forms. Combination of the hand painted text (along the bottom of the image) and the painted image obscuring much of it, presents the conflict between what we think we know and don't juxtaposed the temporal, floral-like forms that signify our ephemeral being.
